Plums
Hardiness: zone 4-9
Oh, plums. A tree ripened plum is so good. They can have trouble with late frosts, or very humid ripening seasons, but when they produce well it is all worth it. Abundant white fragrant blooms are one of my absolute favorite smells in the spring. Very precocious; they can begin flowering and setting fruit at 3 years old
American Plum - delicious native suckering fruit, usually thick skin which protects them from falling and insects. Reliable croppers and great pollinator trees.
All named cultivars are grafted on Myrobalan 29c cherry plum
Toka - a vigorous tree that blooms heavily every year, a great pollinator for other hybrid plums. Dark red fruit
Methley- Methley is a self-fertile japanese plum that is known for being easy to grow. Purple skin with sweet deep-red clingstone flesh
Waneta - Delicious hybrid plum, not self-fertile so plant another variety like Toka or an american seedling
Seneca - European hybrid plum from NY experiment station. Good east coast variety. Needs another variety to set fruit
AU Rosa - Alabama University hybrid japanese plum introduction suitable for humid climates where rot and disease can be an issue. Purportedly self fertile but will benefit from another variety
